Description – On 5 and 6 October, judges, lawyers and court officers from across Bhutan came together for a two-day training on “AI Essentials for Justice” in Thimphu, organised by the Bhutan National Legal Institute, UNDP Bhutan and UNESCO.
DAKSH’s Leah V. delivered this training along with Dona Mathew from Digital Futures Lab and Sudisha Mishra from Centre for Communication Governance, National Law University, Delhi.
Over two days, the training covered the basics of AI, algorithms and generative AI, use case of AI in courts, real-world case studies, case law on the use of AI in the justice system, ethical and human rights impacts of AI in courts. At the core of the training was the principle that AI in the justice system is not just a technology question, it is about using AI responsibly while protecting the rule of law, human rights and maintaining trust in judicial institutions.
