Fast-tracking M&A Approvals and the NCLT

In this webinar, the panellists spoke about the the existing mergers and acquisitions approval process, the role of the NCLT (National Company Law Tribunal) , and the impact of proposed government reforms on deal timelines.

They also discussed the regulatory oversight by financial regulators and the CCI (Competition Commission of India), along with implications for corporate governance, transparency, and shareholder protection.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Vardaan Ahluwalia is the General Counsel at Premji Invest, specializing in private equity and public investments across various sectors in India and the US. His expertise spans fund structuring, early-stage deals, joint ventures, and buyouts, with notable transactions including TVS Credit, Lenskart, and Medplus. Before joining Premji Invest, Vardaan was a partner at a top Indian law firm, with extensive experience in structured investments, private credit, and distressed acquisitions.

Dr. Shouvik Kumar Guha is an Associate Professor of Law & Technology at NUJS and holds leadership roles at multiple research centers. He has expertise in corporate, financial, and technology law, with a special focus on AI, competition law, and law & literature. Dr. Guha is a TEDx speaker, senior research fellow, and visiting faculty at various prestigious institutions. He has authored over 100 publications and collaborated on numerous interdisciplinary research projects.

Murali Ananthasivan is an advocate based in Bengaluru with over 30 years of experience in corporate law, particularly in mergers and acquisitions and corporate restructuring. He began his career at AZB & Partners before co-founding M&C Partners in 2008. During his tenure at JSA, Ananthasivan served on the firm’s executive committee and was instrumental in handling high-profile cases before the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and the Karnataka High Court. In April 2018, he transitioned to independent practice, focusing on litigation and consultation in company law.
